Many business grants are available across the UK, and generally, the good news is that the funds do not have to be repaid and are interest-free. A business grant or plain old simple ‘Grant’ as often referred too, is often called ‘free money’, however, they will most certainly carry conditions such as the business applying has to create some jobs either immediately or in the long-term, as a result of being awarded the business grant.
Additionally, many grants will carry a requirement for any award to be part-funded (match-funded) by the business. i.e. the grant could stipulate that it has to be match funded on a percentage basis such as on a 50/50, 60/40 or 70/30. So if a business seeks a £20,000 worth of grant funding and is successful with the application on a 50/50 basis. The grant amount being awarded would be £10,000, with the business having to fund the remaining £10,000 from its funds, or by other means such as a Business Loan.
Normally grant funding can only be accessed for those requirements, purchases not already instigated, made or started, more importantly not having money already spent.
Whilst there’s more than just one route to finance, seeking and raising business grant funding can be difficult and time-consuming for business owners themselves to achieve.
